UNHCR is the UN Refugee Agency’s national partner in Australia, raising awareness and funds to support UNHCR’s global emergency response to humanitarian crises. It achieves this through the generosity of Australian individual donors, trusts, foundations and other organisations who donate to and partner with Australia for UNHCR to help support its mission statement.

Company Overview

Australia for UNHCR is a not-for-profit organisation that supports the global humanitarian work of the UN Refugee Agency. They raise funds to help UNHCR respond to refugee emergencies and provide displaced communities with ongoing assistance and protection.

Challenges

Australia for UNHCR achieves goals through the generosity of individual Australian donors, trusts, foundations, and other organisations that care about protecting people forced to flee homes. They tried to find a way to communicate with the donors on a more personal level.

“We’ve found SMS most helpful in our appeals, and for our Christmas 2020 campaign, our SMS channel returned an ROI of 7.94%”

Solutions

Australia for UNHCR decided to expand their communication channels. Jess Carius, Digital Retention Specialist, explained, “the more channels we communicate with our donors on, the more money we raise to help people forced to flee their homes.”

They tried RunGopher to implement SMS campaigns, which became a vital part of their channel mix to reach their targets. “We’ve found SMS most helpful in our appeals, and for our Christmas 2020 campaign, our SMS channel returned an ROI of 7.94%”

What’s next?

In the future, Australia for UNHCR plans to integrate SMS and MMS into their donor journeys on a more scheduled basis and more consistently.
